Here, we’re gonna start on the very first page of drawing
manga – MAINSTREAM STYLE~ (For manga styles, read the last post, I explained
the two basic ones there)
Oh and THIS, I will do in Paint. Yes, the Paint program
everyone has. Just because I can, and it's clearer than the scanner.
First, we’ll start with the head, like everyone else
does. Though it’s just a head, I’ll tell you this- the head really, really
defines the body shape, so it’s actually pretty important. Very. But since we’re
still starting from zero, we’ll go from the mainstream manga shape of the head-
the easiest.
Oh and note: This post explains about drawing the base of the head. The base consists of a circle, a horizontal line, a vertical line, and an outline (the outline I will explain in the next post). Sound confusing? Read on and you'll understand. So, anything other than what I mentioned is not a part of the base, mmkay?

First, you draw the infamous circle everyone uses to draw
heads to start. Make it as round as possible, and VERY IMPORTANT NOTES:
·
DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT PRESS TOO HARD WHEN
DRAWING THE LINES. You’d have to erase them later, and if the lines are thick,
you’re gonna have a bad time. So draw them in thin, thin lines. MINE WILL BE
THICK for the sake of clarity, BUT DO NOT FOLLOW IT, draw THIN LINES, THIN
LINES!!
·
even if you can’t make a perfect enough circle
in one go, it’s better to make random strokes until it’s circle enough, cause
admit it, 99.99999% of the human population isn't pro enough to draw a perfect
circle. Trying to do so will waste time. Some people actually do that. I’m
serious.
AAAND afterwards, draw a vertical and horizontal line,
cutting the circle into 4 EQUAL parts. (Hey, it looks like pie! :D) The vertical line should cross the circle’s border on the bottom,
and its length is about the same as the radius of the circle. Then, enclose everything, including the outer lines in a box! (which will be drawn in grey in case my explanation's so unclear, you don't understand a single word I'm saying ==")
Then we draw the outline! :D And for those having trouble
with the symmetry, you can draw a V-like line… it starts from the point where
the vertical line intersects the rectangle, and out to the outermost part of
the circle.
That’s the base. After
you’re done with the outline, you can erase the rectangle, since it’s only an aid to determine the size of the face. You can also erase the V lines since it's only an aid for the outline, so if your outline is done, erase the V lines. BUT NOT THE BASE. DO NOT ERASE THE BASE JUST YET. We'll still use it to determine the placement of the eyes, nose, ears, and whatnot.
THERE YOU GO. Now for what you are waiting for, the
placement of the eyes and whatnot!
…But since this post is getting kinda long, and I don’t
want your eyes and brain to get bored, I’ll post it separately. For now, adios~!!
*EDIT!!! : GAIZ, I JUST REALIZED THAT THE PICTURE IS STRETCHED HORIZONTALLY. LIKE. WHOA. I forgot that the display in my PC is so messed up, everything seems more horizontally stretched then usual. Aaa. And I can't fix it yet due to the problem (read the 3 November post) I still have and haven't solved. ;_; I'll get to that ASAP XDDD
